I really want something that doesn't require me to check another page. Unread is okay because I can just go there whenever I want to read. This forum also has other stuff regularly, and the new report-on-forum will remain unread if I miss a day (similarly for something that would appear in my email). "Once a day, no more no less, and only does one thing for me" is an anti-sweet spot.

Maybe there could be some sort of thing that makes a link to yesterday's daily report show up on your unread page, and then clear away once you've looked at yesterday's daily report?

Yeah, that would work. Not "yesterday's" but "day after last read report", so as to handle missing a day.

Totally different idea: Unread page with two lists. Top list is unread-and-opened. Bottom list is unopened threads only, newest first, with descriptions. That avoids all of the "once a day", "use only yesterday's report" etc things.

I personally like being able to see what times posts updated on particular days, and also how many replies there were on that day (something provided by the Constellation report). I'm not sure your suggested idea definitely removes the need for consistently viewing the second day of the report.

Would email notifications with a link to a particular day not suffice for this scenario?

Email notifications would suffice, but they don't currently exist as far as I've seen. That's why I spoke up.

I would like to make it clear that if anyone is in fact relying on this system to do something convoluted such as in the above comic, I am not happy and I do not think I will care enough to continue doing the reports just for your sake, as it is a nontrivial inconvenience. (However yes the comic is amusing and does represent some of my experience with people. :P)

I can understand that email notifications might be a prerequisite to the Constellation report being "good enough" relevantly (I don't think this is necessary for Alicorn's use-case? … Also maybe not even for yours, Unbitwise) and I'm willing to keep doing the report for a few more days/weeks as I don't expect it to take longer than that to implement them, but I do in fact plan on stopping them within about the next probably-a-month.

Comic link was meant to express sympathy for your position.

I took it as such, just wished to clarify that I am not the kind of person to consider that a valid use-case, or at least not enough that I would inconvenience myself in this way. :P

The one feature which I could see myself really missing from the forum report is the specific noting of new threads; as far as I've been able to tell, the only way to identify if a thread is new on the Constellation report is to check whether its "Replies" and "Today" counts are equal, which takes significantly more effort to do to a day's worth of threads than just looking in the "New threads" box on the forum report. Is there a new-thread-finding feature I've missed on the Constellation report, and if not, would it be possible to add one?
