spoiler-tastic
(7:50:20 PM) Adelene: So I'm modeling bits of this conversation just so I don't make any obvious-in-retrospect mistakes about it, and it occurs to me that it is *very definitely* Lurker's idea to rescue all the kids.
(7:52:03 PM) Adelene: And I should probably actually describe the conversation if I can at all pull it off, 'cause yeah, important background there. (The relevant bit hasn't actually been onscreened or even discussed before, I think.)
(7:53:38 PM) Kappa: <3
(7:54:06 PM) Adelene: Hm
(7:55:26 PM) Adelene: So they go, and they sit - Luker opts to sit on a desk, Rescue takes a chair - and Luker waits for a bit to see if Rescue wants to volunteer anything, and then when it's clear she doesn't, she goes "tell me what happened?"
(7:56:00 PM) Adelene: And Rescue spends a bit trying to figure out how to talk about it, and can't, and makes a face at Lurker to that effect.

(7:58:15 PM) Kappa: <3
(7:59:16 PM) Adelene: And Lurker is like 'well, do you /want/ to talk about it?', and Rescue nods, and then... I think Lurker's first question is 'did you see what happened', and this is the first bit where we get a good description of Lurker really getting nuance from Rescue's body language because the answer there is 'not technically' but - autistic literalness - to a /first/ approximation her answer is no.
(8:00:34 PM) Adelene: And then Lurker confirms and Rescue is trying /so hard/ not to break down again and Lurker reacts to that, which will be its own little scene, and then... *pokes at*
(8:03:04 PM) Adelene: I'm slightly stuck on what Lurker's first guess of how the scene played out is, is a thing; that affects what questions she asks about it.
(8:03:48 PM) Adelene: ...hmh.
(8:06:36 PM) Adelene: Actually from the strength of Rescue's reactions she's inclined to guess that whoever was involved is someone Rescue feels strongly about in some way, so her first question is actually 'was it a friend of yours that did it' and the answer is NOPE, strongly enough that she reminds her that she doesn't actually know what the situation is here at all and she's guessing, and, okay, so an enemy then? To which the answer is a sort of conflicted emphatic yes, like, yes that is a correct answer but she's scared to admit it.
(8:07:15 PM) Adelene: And Lurker is like '...look, if they're killing your friends it's okay to consider them an enemy, it'd be weird not to' and Rescue is like '????? how are you so good?????'
(8:07:54 PM) Kappa: <333333333333333333333333333
(8:08:00 PM) Adelene: Yes <3
(8:11:52 PM) Adelene: hmm... actuall poking at that I don't think it can go quite that way, Rescue will be too on edge from the friend question to give a properly emphatic response to the enemy one.
(8:13:01 PM) Adelene: Like, she still gives a yes, but Lurker doesn't get the 'very yes but there are other factors' thing, she just gets 'sort of' and concludes that it's complicated.
(8:13:23 PM) Kappa: <3
(8:18:51 PM) Adelene: And she echoes that back - 'so, sort of?' - and gets a yes, and then goes 'but if they're killing people that's obviously a problem, even if there is complicated stuff going on. is everyone safe right now?' and Rescue's answer is 'more or less' and then Lurker thinks for a minute and her next question is 'can you tell me about the complicated stuff?' and Rescue is like 'huh?' and Lurker is like 'I'd like to fix this, if we can, but I need to know more about the situation in order to do that'
(8:19:54 PM) Adelene: And Rescue is like '???' and then '?????' and then
(8:20:34 PM) Kappa: <33333333
(8:20:46 PM) Adelene: '??!!??!!!!!????', and then rummages around in the desk for paper (or rather echolocates where the paper is) and starts drawing a map of the place.
(8:21:45 PM) Adelene: At which point Lurker goes '...wait, what? is this... are people /trapped/, is that the problem here? that's not even SLIGHTLY okay, let's go fix it'.
(8:24:00 PM) Kappa: <33333333333333333
(8:25:38 PM) Adelene: And then Rescue goes 'but food and beds and safety and things' and Lurker is like '??' and Rescue is like '??' and gets her words together and goes 'if we take them and don't have a plan to take care of them while they learn to take care of themselves, there will be Problems' and Lurker is like AUGH and Rescue is like 'yeah, well' and Lurker is like FINE I WILL FIND A WAY TO FIX THAT TOO.
(8:29:02 PM) Adelene: And then I have to figure out a way to get Lapse in.
(8:29:07 PM) Kappa: lapse?
(8:29:15 PM) Adelene: The bad guy.
(8:30:47 PM) Kappa: aha
(8:36:14 PM) Adelene: I think from his perspective what's been going on is that Rescue's attention has been on the area around the morgue near-continuously since she got close enough to properly echolocate it, and he's been holding still to avoid her attention being on him specifically, which basically worked (she assumed he was a security guard, in fact he might've been specifically posing as one - she will be able to recognize him by echolocation once she realizes he's important but she hasn't been clued in to that at this point), and then when she started talking to Lurker her attention was taken up by that and he figured it was safe to move. If he's pretending to be a security guard he's already in the building, so he can find them pretty readily... she'll notice as soon as he starts moving around, though, even if she's not actively monitoring at the time.
(8:39:22 PM) Kappa: <333
(8:53:39 PM) Adelene: hmmmmm
(8:53:54 PM) Adelene: What I could do is actually switch /to/ Lapse as our viewpoint character.
(8:54:11 PM) Kappa: oo
(8:54:58 PM) Adelene: Works better than just about anything else I could do, I think. Means I don't have to come up with a reason for them not to just teleport out.
(8:55:12 PM) Kappa: <3<3<3
(8:55:30 PM) Adelene: ^^
