Temples - I had forgotten about temples as such, actually, and the 'priests double AP gain' was meant to represent the locals being able to leave offerings at one.
I don't think acolytes should have an effect on territories other than the one they're in, but if they do I think they need to have a set amount of maximum move rather than a rolled one.
I feel that multiple priests in one territories could be part of a interesting game mechanic, but that sounds like something that goes "too complicated for Spring to learn so fast". Similarly, now that I think about it, the population limit shouldn't be 20, too big, but how big it depends how big the gameboard should get. I think that a extremely good player with maximum population in all but one territory should have 1000 followers in the extreme maxium and I prefer to bring that number to 100. So if the gameboard has like, 25 territores, the maximum follower number could be 4 or 5? Sounds easier to track.
I dont think temples are necessary for the game, but wouldnt ruin it either.
edit: how about if some territories have half the population limit but produce twice as much faith?

I was similarly thinking of multiple priests per territory as not very useful. If priests are good for other things (converting, mostly), then having extra priests around gives you the same kind of benefits as having armies around in your own territories; you have the ability to go convert stuff without losing anything yourself.

extra priests might help with stuff like "special" events like plagues or religious celebrations or whatever.

I have an idea for the Acolytes that allowed for Rae's version:
Creating an Acolyte is risky. Roll a die and if you get five*(number of Acolytes you have plus one) or higher you get an Acolyte, otherwise you loose the Territory and unless you manage to kill the unfriendly Acolyte he will keep neutralizing your territories until you are dead and he takes over.
Add to your roll population+faith spend divided by five(you can be picky about who becomes your acolyte and the people like you better).
So if you have 25 followers you can choose an acolyte from them with no risk. Or if you have a lot of spare faith you can use it to get an acolyte more than your current population can safely support. Or you could create an Acolyte as a last ditch effort when you are about to loose.

Acolytes don't sound like a last ditch effort kind of thing, but considering what happened in cannon...
