Invisible "unread" text near the message would solve the latter, and separating themes and layouts would allow us to add "highlight unread post" as a layout tweak (similarly to how "no icon" is one such tweak).

I am seeing a problem where the Constellation forgets — not immediately — that I've started reading a thread. In particular, I think I have twice now found
Why does the dungeon always collapse back to unopened. And yet now, and I think the last time, I have partially read it and it shows up in my unread list like normal.

Have you done anything else with the post that might have had side-effects? (Hidden it, marked it unread at a certain point, marked the whole post unread and not reloaded the page and hence having it marked unopened, marked the whole board unread – probably not relevant here since it's Sandboxes…?)
I'm not sure why this would happen, and there are quite a few routes that affect post views and could plausibly have bugs to do weird things. I've not experienced it but I mostly stick to the routes of code I've actually looked through and understand fully (meaning I have hardly used favoriting and I don't think I've got any hidden posts and the unread page leaves me slightly wary but appears to work). Debugging is hard when it's not readily reproducible.

It would be nice if clicking the "add alias" button while editing a character did at least one of the following:
- automatically saved changes to the character
- asked if you wanted to save changes to the character
- alerted you that you would lose unsaved changes to the character
- gave you a pop-up / new text entry field, instead of loading a new page
I keep editing a character, putting new things in several text fields, and getting down to the "add alias" button and hitting that and then realizing that it loads a new page and grumbling at my brain.
Also it would be cool to be able to add aliases at character creation!

Added to the list of issues!
… I think we need to start prioritizing them more usefully because currently it feels (to me at least) like they're just swamping us a little.

I might have marked unread at a point but I doubt it. If I come up with a better description of the problem I will, but it's hard when substitutes-for-remembering-things-yourselves features fail…

There's been previous mention of at least one place where there is a bug and the unread arrows don't show up. Was it definitely unopened-and-bold, or just didn't-show-the-unread-arrow-might-have-been-unbolded?

It was definitely bold, had no arrow, and did not appear in /posts/unread?started=true
but did appear in /posts
or author's post lists.

Some feature requests:
- a "remove formatting" button in the post formatting options! since copy/paste copies formatting in rich text format, or an option to paste without formatting. it's especially annoying to copy something from the thread itself and have it show up in weird formatting
- the ability to drag and drop re-order icons in a gallery, rather than just have them go by alphabetic order
- relatedly, a more usable multi-select, with ctrl and shift working as anticipated, or at least a select all button
- it would be really nice to have a way for readers to react directly to posts, in a way that you could see from the post if you wanted, but that would not disrupt the flow of the thread if you wanted to ignore them
even just discord-style emoji reactions would be an improvement for me, but it would be really neat if you could like, click on an expand button and open a panel where you could read and make comments and emoji reactions on each post. like, a whole metatextual channel. i don't know if anyone else wants this but i would find it very rewarding as both a reader and an author
EDIT: whoops i cut off a sentence

A metatextual channel sounds like it would be kind of amazing but maybe difficult to implement? But amazing.
