Oh, I was assuming that the hypothetical Manwë wouldn’t have met anybody from an Arda and just learned about incarnates from the millions of years of being forced to interact with them more closely than typical.

If he didn't meet anyone from Arda, he might ask some non-Arda people's opinions on his persistent mysteries.

I was imagining that he might also hear enough stories about incarnates that he could guess what a very wary incarnate might do to verify Melkor's non-evilness, or something along those lines. But explicit advice would serve as well or better.

I thought up a new portalsnake-equivalent!

From an IM conversation:
It involves a pair of worlds, one Earth and one Non-Earth. This is originally aimed at an adjacency multiverse I'm planning with Maggie, so for our purposes Non-Earth is a cul-de-sac adjacent only to its Earth, but I the same effect can be achieved in jumbly multiverses with an appropriately configured wee worldsheaf

in Non-Earth, it is possible to spin light (and possibly shadow) into thread which can be tied in knots, woven into textiles, etc.
in addition to being very pretty, light-threads can also be manipulated into configurations that do magic
and one of the kinds of magic they do is interdimensional transit!

This isn't an area of particular interest in Non-Earth because the naturally occurring version is even rarer than tears are in Fairyland, and I don't think the inhabitants of Non-Earth are immortal, so it's like "every century or few somebody randomly disappears without a trace, what's up with that"

But what's happening is that a strand of light will get naturally caught on a tree branch or something and windblown into an interdimensional-transit-producing tangle, and then there's a portal there for a few seconds at a time, as long as the tangle is in just the right position and as long as the lighting conditions near the tangle are similar enough to the lighting conditions in a corresponding-ish place on Earth (I haven't totally worked out how the targeting works)

The equivalent of a portalsnake eating another portalsnake is when an accidental portal-knot forms that's sturdy enough to stay functional after falling through its own portal

And then it has plenty of options for destinations that aren't back where it came from, and can fall through its own portal multiple times until it gets caught on something else and tangled back out of its portalizing configuration

Interesting!

So this version is more like an ouroboros portalsnake than like one eating another?

Hahaha, yes. It's a portalsnake that can eat itself.

Demon Cam/any daeva + Eriko/Soul
Elves as ponies

I actually wanted to use Steven Universe himself though.

No reason why there couldn't be multiple versions with different moieties...
Also Gem + a Crystal Gem from Steven Universe and Gem + Soul

I also want to protect Steven Universe from Alicorn's cruel grasp, but okay. As long I can use him too...
