+1 for a page listing all unopened non-ignored threads. Would be nice to be able to sort it by thread start time and time of the latest reply, and also to filter by continuity (or really just Sandbox or not but that's not any easier presumably).

+1 kappa's suggestion of icon colour change

About this last thing, I think a better UI would be simply to add filters to unread. Or, even, unify unread and recently updated and add filters to that. So, there'd be a single page, Recently Updated, and then you could filter for unread, favourited, read, unopened, by author, by continuity, by setting, by character...

Edit: Edited with more responses.

Conveniently enough, there is already an issue, issue #51, for this precise thing and I will be adding your input to it. (Thanks also to Moriwen, as these might be fixable with temporary measures before we do a huge overhaul, because huge overhauls are daunting and scary and time-consuming.)

For the tags owed page, should we just … slightly grey-ify the unread link, if there are no unread replies? (So it's green, consistent with the other pages, when you have unread replies – I assume this is why Kappa suggested this configuration and I agree – and visually distinct when you don't.) If not, do people have preferences for the exact color (I'm thinking change the arrow color in both icons, but maybe only the arrow color)?
jalapeno_dude wrote:#83: I feel the same way as Kappa re bold only meaning one thing, but would prefer to keep it reserved for unopened threads. Why can't posts with unread replies on the Tags Owed page just display a First Unread button there like they would everywhere else?
They already do, for every post, so you can click it and get to the most recent part of the post to reply to. (If you click it and have no unread replies, you get taken to the end of the thread.) This way, unfortunately, there is no distinction between unread and "just linking to the end". (This is why color change is probably a good idea.)
jalapeno_dude wrote:#131: My inclination is to put it in the post-navheader element (where the Previous Post button is right now)
In cases where there isn't a previous post, this seems like it would be clunky and inconvenient. In cases where there is one, we'd… have to line it up appropriately to fit on that bar, or have it below, and … I mean that location doesn't seem like the best one to me but I might just be imagining particular implementations that don't work. I was thinking maybe an italic link at the footer of the first post? Or somewhere in the pagination bar.
jalapeno_dude wrote:#78: Just want to throw in my 2 cents that the "how to use the interface" stuff should be kept as separate as possible from the "what is glowfic" stuff. Distinguish between platform and content!
I was already sort of assuming we'd have them as separate articles on the system? I mean, I don't expect us to religiously remove any aspect of 'glowfic' from every part of the interface, as there will need to be links to relevant details (e.g. if you're describing the "create a character" section, "template nickname" does not make a ton of sense, "screenname" lacks context, etc., and so there will probably be links to the relevant contexts.). Is this a problem, or were you just generally meaning "don't scatter all the details together"?

Just to make it clear (so people can comment on this), I'm suggesting getting rid of the "unread" page altogether and add its function to the "recently updated" page in the form of an unread filter.

Sounds good, as long as you can have default filters.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having Unread and Recently Updated combined as long as that didn't substantially change my default reading-the-unread-page experience, because that currently works very well for me.

What I'm thinking for the link-to-last-reply icon in Tags Owed when there's no unread is maybe turn the arrow a sort of pale bluish grey - not dark or muted enough to look like it means "this button is unusable", but very distinct from the green - and then the yellow-page part of the icon can be white. Alternately use a different icon entirely. Dunno which one. It should be the exact same size though, for sure.

phpBB uses an orange page for unread replies and a white page for read ones, so white makes sense to me there.

So I attempted some photoshopping (with GIMP :P) and I'm not sure I did very well. I think the blue is probably too desaturated and not distinct enough. Maybe not even blue. Anyhow, I'd appreciate feedback (or alternatively someone else could photoshop instead?).

Image note_go
Image note_go blue?
Image note_go indigo?
Image note_go stronger
Image bullet_go
Image bullet_go blue?
Image bullet_go indigo?
Image bullet_go stronger

The "white" of the modified note_go images might be a bit too silver, too. I just used the hue/sat tool and then brightness/contrast.
(For the note bit: hue/sat: hue 0, light 0, sat -100; brightness/contrast: bright 15, contrast 10. For the blue arrow bit: colorize: hue 220, sat 40, light 20. For the 'indigo' arrow bit: colorize: hue 235, sat 70, light 35. For the 'stronger' arrow bit: colorize: hue 235, sat 70, light 10.)

I quite like note_go stronger; I don't think I use a layout that has the bullet one instead, so I will defer to others on their preferences there.

I like indigo or stronger in both cases, but I don't use layouts with bullet_go so this is just a note_go opinion. The white totally works IMO.
