I really hate how the multiple stories threads can't be flat'ed without they becoming all confusing :/

Somewhere on this forum there is a trick you can use with CSS to make threaded view as flat as flat view.

Re: the current Oz sandbox. How tightly defined is the pink pearl's version of "trapped"? Could one use it to force a door to Milliways if they are "trapped" in Oz (assuming Oz is not their native world)? Or does it merely prevent trapping by someone with antagonistic intent, and if you get trapped by your own actions, you're stuck?

Gonna leave that question to Nemo since he was being Oz in that sandbox.

The only canon cases of trapping that I can think of involved malicious intent. But the Pearl explicitly doesn't care what the source of the danger is, and I don't see any reason for that not to apply to being trapped as well as harmed.

Interdimensional travel...maybe. I'll go with yes. It ignores physical impossibility already, and this is plausibly just another step up from that. You can't count on a door to Milliways specifically, though. You could get some more direct transportation back to your world, or it might stop you from being stuck in Oz in the first place, or something else entirely. But you're getting back in the immediate future somehow.

Presumably this is based partially on my definition of trapped? If I went through Milliways to Oz and I had no way to get home, then got ahold of the Pink Pearl, would it bring me back home if I didn't want to go back? What if I'm from Oz and know about Milliways, I've never gotten a door, and I want out?

Analogs of both these situations are possible even without inter dimensional travel (see: bondage and A-cluster Jokers, respectively). I'm guessing it would go the way the person holding the Pearl wanted in all these cases?

The actual intended answer is probably "whatever the 8-12 year old target audience would think." I don't consider that an admissible answer, so here's my speculation.

In a situation where the Pear's power applies, it will protect you. It usually does this with minimal intervention, e.g. not falling when the floor disappears, walking through bars when imprisoned, etc. The general theme is that it allows things to happen but protects you from the directly threatening consequences.
It has to be partly related to what you want, because if the guy on the trapdoor wanted to be at the bottom of the pit it wouldn't have stopped him.

I can't imagine a case where getting out of the Oz universe is necessary for protection. It has a very high cotton candy ratio.
Make it Materia or the Pactverse, or some other place where the universe itself can be out to get you, and a door to Milliways might eventually make the list of options. More likely the Pearl would just let the divine smites happen but not let them harm you directly. It's going for the most direct way to stop the immediate threat, not the sum of all future threats. But yes, it is theoretically possible for the Pink Pearl to get someone out of their native universe. Last surviving person after heat death certainly gets a door. (Or some form of escape. Milliways in particular might not want to give them one.)

Without interdimensional travel, there'll almost always be a less magic-intensive way. Like, it could have gotten Dorothy home, but it would have been more likely to do it by making her immune to the magic turns-people-to-sand desert, allowing her to walk on water when necessary, and giving her directions to Kansas.
It follows intent more when deciding whether to help than what to do. But both have limits. Notably, if you're held in one place by fear of what the villain will do to your family if you leave, you will not register as trapped to the Pearl and it will not prevent harm to them regardless of how much you want to avoid that.

Yay! I remember reading about the new sandbox, but I thought it was in an abandoned idea that never got off the ground. I'm glad it exists.

Ok, I can't find the Sunday discussion. I thibk I got it confused with a different one.

That person is Razi? I thought he was always teleporting, but sometimes just an inch to the left or right? How did Ryou not notice that/did he find a way to stay still?
