Re: Questions about Visitor
Kind magic that messes with orders seems too much like, uh, kind magic that messes with orders.

True. I just generally accept it as a alternative to Secret if someone wants a depurpled sandboxKappa wrote:Kind magic that messes with orders seems too much like, uh, kind magic that messes with orders.

In both the Fairies in Elceina sandbox and the Promise and Lord Ruler sandbox, it is said that the Queen does not know her own name, presumably by forgetting it the conventional way. I can see how any other fairy (except Secret or Serene) could forget their own name. However, I’m still confused about how the Queen could fail at knowing her own name, given that she is a fairy.

...You can see how any other fairy except Secret or Serene... was there supposed to be more to that sentence?

@Alicorn
Do you have a conceptual line between "kind magic" and the other abilities that a kind gets? Like Promise's tree-related abilities or Sky-veil's ability to sustain themselves with only sunlight and water?

@Kappa: Yes; I have fixed the sentence. The rest is “could forget their own name”. Secret couldn’t forget her own name because she doesn’t have one, and Serene could not forget his because he cannot forget. Any fairy who is neither one of those nor the Queen could (and probably should) forget their name, but I don’t see how the Queen could. Even if she forgot, she would know her name as soon as she were to consider the question because she is a fairy, and therefore she knows her name.

Re: Questions about Visitor
The Queen's own name is an exception to her kind magic. (I am undecided about whether it works in such a way that a fairy who was inside of the Queen's body would be equally an exception.)
There is not a hard line between kind magic and non-kind-magic kind properties. Things having to do with how fairies start and then how they continue tend not to be their kind magic; a kind magic should generally be something that need never come up with a fairy who happened to exist under the right circumstances, whereas Promise couldn't exist without a tree that had special properties, skyveils would soon become inoperative within their intended habitat if they couldn't do the rain thing, the Queen started underwater but can't breathe it so she got a bubble, etc. If no one ever tries name-learning sorcery on Promise or a skyveil doesn't happen to encounter the thing they extra-sense (unlikelier in some cases than others, but like imagine Arcane coming to exist in Elcenia for some reason) or the Queen never meets other fairies, then these things won't matter.

Re: Questions about Visitor
Does that also apply to breeder kinds?

To a lesser extent. It's even less of a hard line.

Maybe they can be influenced by conditions the Pareniarch¹ started? Also, why there aren't mixed Starter-but-can-breed kinds?Alicorn wrote:To a lesser extent. It's even less of a hard line.
Do you have the growth-rate for Leaflet's trees in mind? I have trouble picturing how big Promise's house is and how fast it gets there.
