Talk to the characters.
Re: Talk to the characters.
You also have units for ialdae, just like Brilliance had units for device magic.

Different sandboxes may make different decisions about the details of how Draconic provides vocabulary in similar but distinct situations.
Re: Talk to the characters.
It still feels odd that Draconic wouldn't have the requisite vocabulary. I was assuming the vocabulary was there, but either not useful without a more precise way of measuring it (like a dragon can know there are 3600 seconds in an hour, but doesn't know what either of those is without either seeing a clock, spending a day on Earth, or doing more linguistic exploration than is typical), or not quite where they were looking.
Re: Talk to the characters.
I thought Draconic didn't manufacture vocabulary until they'd seen a few instances of a thing, even in cases where there is already a word for it (like Ehail figuring out the word for 'horse' in Barashi). Matilda might just have to use her magic more before Draconic can provide an opinion.
Re: Talk to the characters.
Whereas Brilliance knew enough about his magic and mana to use and find the word.

Re: Talk to the characters.
Perhaps Device panlingualism lets him pull specific vocabulary under different conditions than Draconic panlingualism.

Adarin. You might want to try reading the non-blue ones first. They’re less of a privacy invasion, and they might still let you fall in love with her or let you know that there is no chance of that and you should not read the more-private ones. In either case, the less privacy invasion, the better.
You would find the second possibility more likely because you don’t know that the first has a real chance of actually being true.
EDIT: This would also be the perfect situation to bring in actual emotion-manipulating magic if any is. If only your old housemate understood the concept of consent, told you what she was up to, and were actually reachable.

What if you set the threshold based on the distribution of values in the particular book, like everything lighter than median gets rounded to white and everything darker than median gets rounded to black?

Re: Talk to the characters.
I expect that would play havoc with the remaining images, and might use up enough more mana that it isn’t worth it.

For the alchemy brainstorm: In addition to muggle inventions, there's also muggle discoveries -- things that always existed but only muggle[born]s know exist. For example, telomerase might be a useful component.
