I really like the slightly disdainful way the Bells sometimes end up referring to each other and their respective staff when they're not around. "Budget version of Sarion's aura" and "much-beloved telepathic radio" are the only ones that spring to mind at the moment, but they're great fun all on their own.

18 is definitely age of consent in California, but I think it might be 16 in Washington?

Damn, I had looked it up and apparently Washington is complicated. Apparently they'd have been fine as soon as she was sixteen, but there are some complications that make for a "de facto" "without reservations" age of 18, and I don't see Bella, like, looking up the original text of these laws and having legalistic arguments with her dad if she got oversimplified information in health class?
