Be careful with these posts, but not overly suspicious. To be specific, you can check the last edit time of the post, and you can compare the message to the one in this index. If you don’t think anything relevant changed between when the post was and when the last edit was, and/or if you trust me, that should be enough.

Question: what purpose does posting our public keys serve? From what I can tell, that site doesn't allow manual insertion of public keys like it does private keys; it updates the box when I tell it to generate new keys, but not when I highlight the contents and try to paste another key in. So unless there's something I'm missing, we only really need to post our encrypted messages + save our private keys for future revealing.

That is my understanding as well.
I originally included the public key for completeness and because that was before my wiki-dive. :P
On the other hand, revealing the public key does no damage. It's only useful for encryption.

I’m fairly sure it isn’t useful. It could be used by the paranoid to make sure that the private key matches the provided public key, but I think it’s mathematically infeasible to generate two different messages which encrypt to the same thing with different private keys. My crypto skill is limited to "how to fulfill the demands of people who are actually security conscious," but I think technically by posting our public keys we allow people to send encrypted messages to us. Which is against the rules if it's actually done, as I understand them. Then again, we already have private messages for that, and those don't get revealed if the private key holder publishes.

Should we just not do it, or edit our posts to eliminate the public keys?

Also I have an icon now so you can find me more memorable or not. I would have used the fish one but it was too large (kb-wise) and I like this one too. It is my favourite statue.

There are enough ways to send private messages against the rules (those rules being entirely clear) that I doubt adding one more will cause people to break rules they would otherwise not have broken.

Also, Shoal, I believe you are correct that the ciphertext changing when you decrypt and reencrypt is fine. I’ve seen it before, I tested it several times here, and although I’m not certain I think it’s to prevent a known-plaintext attack. I could otherwise use a given public key to try to encrypt several different messages in the hopes that the encrypted version matched an encrypted message I already had and couldn’t decrypt; using some random value so it always ciphers differently prevents that.
