I similarly have no way to translate it, help?

I was wondering how long it would take somebody to bust out cryptography. This is not forbidden. My understanding is that you can't translate it now, but if he gives you the ability to translate it later you can verify that it really said what it says all along.

It is at this point that I would like to bring up that one of the strategy things I saw was “lynch all liers”. Often, lying does more harm than you expect; if we catch somebody in a lie*, it might be a good idea to assume they’re a bad guy. This isn’t necessarily true; an ordinary townsperson might say “I am Sherlock; I can tell the role and rules of any one person each night” in order to draw killers to them and save the rest of the town, but doing this kind of thing still causes problems. Since bad guys are more likely to lie than others, whereas town-allied roles are more likely to just hide information, it might be a good idea to institute this kind of policy.

Alicorn’s understanding is correct as regards the cryptography we’ve so far used. I was steering clear of that method because similar methods could be used to convey private information between two parties while keeping all communication in this thread, but simply doing what modrony did should be OK.

EDIT: actually inserted footnote

* A game-related lie, and not just revealing further information. If Shoal says something indicating they are not actually a school of fish, then that does’t count because it’s just roleplaying. If somebody says they have private information when previously they said we know nothing, that doesn’t count because they were simply declining to reveal information and the public knew nothing. If somebody says they are a townie and then says they are a Tony, that does count unless Tonies have no powers whatsoever. Obviously borderline cases exist; we can discuss them when they come up

Do not use cryptography to communicate information to a subset of other players. What you post must be comprehensible to all or none at any given time.

Very cool.
I urge people to encrypt their templates and publish them.
Once majority have done so, we can publish the private key and see if we have any conflicts.

Make sure to save the private keys!

That is, if there aren't any arguments against this strategy?

No lynch

Randomly lynching people is most likely to get a non-killer, since if they outnumbered non-killers they could control the lynch vote easily.

Also, can we publish our private keys after getting killed?

You can't post anything after getting killed, but your template will be revealed at that time anyway.

I'm up for this it, modrony, but only if the majority publish their templates as well. Also I think I might need to be carefully walked through how to not completely screw up the RSA key generator, I've never dealt in this kind of thing before.

Generic villagers should probably post an encrypted post that they are no template so as to avoid drawing killers to the templates if the templates also post their template in encryption.
