Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
Suicidal dwindled cop who wants to draw fire; my point was, a double doc-claim
a) should not occur
b) is probably best taken at face value
And yes, this is likely to e.g. out non-dwindled cops who might be concerned the falseclaimant may have been fae'd, so not exactly a good samaritan action.
I wonder if something silly like "the third letters of your first and last names" could be used to check for collisions while still triggering a "you can't quite remember the symbols STAR - HEART - HORSESHOE. You will need the piece of paper with STAR - HEART - HORSESHOE written on it if you wish to remember the sequence" clause.
(all of this, of course, continues to assume that faeries, but Shoal seems to know what they're doing maybe?)
PVE being regaled by stories of battles past continues to stand in as a decent substitute for actual game events :3

Yes, Shoal, I played in that game. I agree that it's usually a bad idea to directly lie as town.
Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
I do not know what you’re referencing (EDIT: with the Lucky Charms sequence), but I suppose there might be some way to do some complicated thing like that. At some point it crosses the line into “cryptography”, because the cryptography we used was just “really overcomplicated cryptographic hashes”. They were in spirit equivalent to publishing a scientific paper consisting of the word “ceiiinosssttuv”.

Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
Yes, I'm somewhat worried about this, but since the main complaint was "not everyone is a crypto geek", hopefully something straightforward everyone agreed with could be fine. Full crypto would be posts degenerating into a deluge of base64 that entirely nullify the "no PM" restriction, but I was thinking more along the lines of
Rhysel Allera Camlenn =>
If anyone wants to outright veto this, I would not be too put out.
Edit re Edit: the possibility of hinting very obviously/recoverably at the name, but in a way that the fae cannot claim to have seen/Found a direct representation of it. If guessing is enough, power claims at all are already risky.

Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
My guess at fairy power would be that they could, under some circumstances, guess names. If I knew that you were Rhysel, and I were a fairy, I expect there would be some way for my character to guess Rhysel. And then your name would click into place.
Plus, I expect that your attempt is close enough to violating the spirit of the “no crypto” rule to be allowed, regardless of whether or not it’s a good idea. Would it be allowed?

But I’m too lazy to do a vote count.

Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
I'm not sure I understand the proposed code, which is reason enough to ban it as too cryptography-like.

Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
Fair enough. At risk of still violating said spirit, what about something like "my first name has an odd number of letters"?
As a way to determine if a dual claim is counter etc.

Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
You may make statements about the linguistic features of your True Names if you are moved to do so.
Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
I think that this shouldn’t even come up until claiming happens in the first place, at which point specifying your story might be more disambiguating and safer than specifying the parity of the number of letters in your name.

In my experience, more talking = betterer.
When I used to play online maf years ago on MSPA, a thing we often did was readlists where we asked everyone for their opinions on everyone. Maybe we should use those here?
