She is definitely succeeding at doing that! I thought she might be Avet because of the way she said she was going to try to solve everyone's lifespan problems.

That is really cool!

Prism said that thing, but behold how she has not actually followed through on any of it, even posting a basic rundown of how the magic works. I have it all worked out, Prism's just lazy ;)

Thank you <3

Oh, okay! I'd assumed that she was actually doing something and waiting until she had results. XD

I created a_potato. (I believe this means I must now answer "no comment, per Yudkowsky's request to reply 'no comment'" if asked if I am Eliezer Yudkowsky, but somehow I suspect that's not going to convince this particular group of people...) For aesthetic reasons that I hope are obvious, I did not claim the character until six hours had elapsed.

I have no intention of continuing to post as a_potato--I neither have the time nor feel I have the ability to capture the character's well-established voice. (I will probably write a couple more one-shot personae and may eventually work my way up to actual characters.) Anyone who wants to is welcome to claim the character. The username is apotato (apparently display names can have underscores but usernames cannot). The password is the obvious one, repeated twice so it is long enough to be accepted as a password. (If you are unsure what the obvious password is, you should probably not be RPing this character). Go ahead and log in and post if you're so inclined. I only ask that you don't change the password and post here when you're claiming and unclaiming the account.

I have been doing the math by converting years to seconds with the equation
=(years)*365.25(day/year)*24(hour/day)*60(minutes/hour)*60(seconds/minute), which simplifies to =(years)*31557600(seconds/year).
I have been converting to cycles from seconds with
=(seconds)/[125(seconds/shade)*25(shades/color)*25(colors/day)*5(days/week)*5(weeks/set)*5(sets/net)*5(nets/shine)*25(shines/cycle)], which simplifies to
=(seconds)/1220703125(seconds/cycle)
Using these, I found:
40 years = 1262304000 seconds = 1.0341 cycles.
60 years = 1893456000 seconds = 1.5511 cycles = 1 cycle, 14 shines.

Does the math look right?
This is what I did:
>>> 125*25*5*5*5*5*25
48828125 = amount of seconds
>>> _/60
813802.0833333334 = amoutn of minutes
>>> _/60
13563.368055555557 = amount of hours
>>> _/24
565.1403356481482 = amount of days

It does now seem like I missed one of the 25s.

Wait, the obvious password repeated twice works? I haven’t seen many password rules where that would be the case. Unless your “obvious password” is some other set of three to five characters than the one I am thinking of.

Nope, I checked, that worked. Huh. I don’t actually want to claim the character, though.

I made a generic discussion-of-things-we-want-to-talk-about-but-that-don't-necessarily-warrant-a-separate-thread thread in Backstage. Maybe we can move some of these conversations over to there?

I hadn't quite realized how effective "mess around at random until something catches fire" is as a technique for worldbuilding and generating conflict.

I totally did not plan for QUALITY DISCOUNT SPELLBOOKS to cause an apocalyptic crisis. I just thought it would be funny to play a spammer, and then I just sort of ran with it.
