Aaeeihhyleekatheeei Hhirheek, "Leekath": Something to with hearing I think. Maybe she can try and hear all the night actions someone took once per night.
Saasnil Fikastel: vanilla townie
Oris us Azef: she’s a light so some kind of protective/healing role. The light healing powers seem like they’d work like a standard mafia doctor except not able to heal other lights if any of them exist. The not needing to eat thing might mean they’d be immune to a poisoner (http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Poisoner) if there's one in the game.
Kaylobesaynmorenshonenkim, "Kaylo": He’s a wizard and wizardry is the most flexible elcenia magic. So I’m thinking a jack of all trades role. Instead of the standard where it’s all one shot abilities I think each ability might have a CC cost and when it hits zero he’s not able to use anymore spells (possibly it replenishes).
Taala: vanilla townie
Ahin Kithen: he’s a witch so something to do with making potions. Medicinal potions seem like the only one relevant to the game so some kind of healing ability I think. Not sure how he’d differ from a light, maybe he’d be able to stockpile potions to use later.
Rhysel and Eryn: They are blood siblings in canon so they might have the mafia siblings role where if one dies the other also dies.

Keopygavakilshelarinebna'achithkanlen, "Keo": Can use her mental powers from being a unique dragon to investigate one person a night and determine what there affiliations is and what powers if any they have
Reven: He’s able to continue to talk in the thread (but not to vote or anything else) after the dies to represent the Barashian afterlife.
The Dragon Council: I think these might be masons. Maybe a variation where they have private chat but they don’t know that they’re all innocent

Talyn: Talyn wasn’t going to be on this list but then I saw Kappa’s post saying that “no way he'd be investigative, when has Talyn ever known what he was doing” and I’m going to guess he’s an insane or random cop because that would be hilariously fitting.

I'm going to just pick someone from each letter of the alphabet. One of them is me for real, the rest are me making stuff up that I think might be in the game. some letters only have one person sothat constrained my choices a bit.

Cenem - 1-shot death proof because of her resistance to pain due to being a shren
Eret - vengeful. If we lynch Eret, he kills the last person who voted for him.
Finnah - fruit vendor. once a night she can visit someone and give them candy. This means that trackers will see who she visited but not necessarily what she did there.
Hallai - Chelsea
Ilen - almost vanilla but if anyone targets him at night he suicides because he's scared of being outside.
Jensal - 1-shot death proof because of her resitance to pain due to being a shren
Keo - once a night she can go into someone's mind and find out their alignment, like when she checks people in the sandbox
Leekath - once each morning she overhears from somebody's clothing what they were doing last night. or if she was targeted at night she hears who the person was from their clothes, then if she didn't die that night she knows that the person who visited her was town and knows not to vote for them.
Mata - half of a wolfrider pair with Tama. They have a private google doc to work together on and know each other are both town.
Narax - powerful wizard, has lots of different spells he can use but can only use each once (for game balance reasons). Each night, he chooses which spell to use and which person to use it on.
Oris - a light, she is a doctor.
Phyrna - a silver group dragon, which is apparently a shade of blue, the group that gets more forms.
Rithka - can turn into a squirrel to evade attack.
Samia - killer because she was mean to Narax
Tama - half of a wolfrider pair with Mata. They have a private google doc to work together on and know each other are both town.
Vianne - no clue who this is but I'm guessing vanilla townie

In case of anyone wanting to pick a randomized target that isn't Aestrix, by the way, tomorrow's random number is here.

If someone manages to convince me not to vote for Aestrix in particular but I'm still going with the verified randomization strategy, I will switch my vote according to that number when it is revealed. Unless it's me. I will not vote for myself.

But it is unlikely that someone will manage to convince me not to vote for Aestrix in particular, because I'm pretty adamant that it's impossible to get trustworthy information about specific people's in-game characteristics on the first day, and I am sympathetic to but ultimately unmoved by arguments about how fun she is as a player.

Well, I committed to this, and I'm having sadfeels about killing Aestrix but not enough sadfeels not to honor my commitment. (Also, does "precommit" have any meanings that can't just be covered by the word "commit"?). Kill Aestrix, sorry, it's been an honor, etc.

ETA: Also, I feel like she was being weirdly evasive in her call-to-not-kill-people. Well, I don't know if evasive is the right word, but something seemed off there.

My opinion on Aestrix: I have no way of knowing at this time whether or not she is scum. I am not even going to try to engage with the question of What The Mods Would Have Done except to say that it's reasonably likely they introduced real randomness into at least some of the role assignments, especially the ones that might otherwise have led to a lot of What The Mods Would Have Done second-guessing. Aestrix's intelligence and value as a player is therefore either on our side or not and we can't tell until it's too late. Aestrix's entertainment[ value as a player is not a strategic consideration, and I have blown my soft cuddly heart quota for the game already. I stand firm on my vote.

Furthermore, I explicitly stated that I can be argued out of my day 1 random kill plan by a well-explained and sensible alternate strategy, and yet Aestrix's defense is totally devoid of alternate strategies and focuses on things that do not appear in my quoted terms for departing from my precommitment. That's, uh, odd.

Actually I sort of ignored you because I happen to know you, and didn't think I could reliably convince you to change your vote. It was really more of a 'rage against the heavens at one in the morning' deal, instead of against anyone in particular. And people don't believe me when I say I have a temper xD

I do agree, day one isn't hugely likely to give us specific killer information, however. I think we are a nasty mix of inexperienced and in the dark about the game we're playing. I think that last game there was a high power role percentage, and that it's likely that there will be a lot of power roles here, too. The problem with killing every time we can is it also eats up time. As in, it gives our power roles less time to work. Investigators, power thieves, etc. They need time to work. Killing people day one before we have any proof and it's overwhelmingly likely to fail to get the correct person will eat away at their protection. That is, all of us being indistinguishable from each other to scum.

I'm not advocating never killing, that's idiotic, of course the mafia would win if we never killed anyone. I don't even think not killing people should go past day one or maybe two, because that way the investigators and the doctors get a chance to do something. Some hint, some subtle list that people can go back over after their deaths, something. Last game we dropped the ball on looking over information people left (Tamien's trust list is the major thing that comes to mind) and I want there to be a ball this game to either drop or fail to drop.

Also, her post contains a claim with no citation that "Alicorn admitted that our roles are not up to the random number god, but picked based on what would be interesting and unexpected". I have skimmed the first posts of this and the OOC thread and found no such statement, and I don't remember hearing one. I acknowledge that I could be forgetting and failing to find it. Can someone find the citation, please?

Unfortunately, I don't actually remember where it was said. I think it was IRC, and I don't think the logs updated far enough, so I don't think I have proof. Which. Kind of sucks, actually, I would really genuinely like proof of that thing. What I recall of it was Tamien asked how roles were picked and Alicorn answered. I distinctly remember squeeing because I was pleased that Alicorn gave me Libby on purpose, because it was a really fun role to play. Alas. I retract my statement from earlier, because I don't remember and don't have proof.

It's fine. Nothing personal. It'll really tick me off if I die day one, but hey, sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles.

I don't know what you mean? Where was I being evasive? Which post, exactly? If it was the one made at one in the morning, I blame sleep deprivation, but if not I'd genuinely like to explain myself.

I realize I haven't made it official, but I will now. I vote no lynch. I can be swayed from this with compelling evidence towards someone being scummy, an argument that will sway me towards killing someone, or if my alternative is dying.

List is forthcoming, I will be doing it, but I will poke at it when I am less annoyed.

We have 3 days, I think Kappa's idea is a good one. We can see who the number picks next and pile on them to see how they react, and then we'll have one more day to do the same thing, and then we could each individually make up our minds about how everybody -- not just the people who were picked -- has been acting that day and vote.

btw aestrix, on mafaiscum they dont do random voting like this with picking a number. they do semi-random and usually it ends up that most people have 1-2 votes on them at the end of it and then they start discussing with each other and chatting with each other. it's just an icebreaker thing, not a "we will commit to the RNG because that's literally the worst we can do". we don't have to copy them, we can and should come up with our own way of breaking the ice, but we do need to break the ice somehow. I think kappa's make a long list of who might be in the game thing might be filling in for that.

the RNG isn't any more likely to pick out scum than we are RIGHT NOW but if we spend this time getting to know each other maybe something will jump out to some of us and we can figure each other out.

I also remember something about Alicorn saying that. I'll see if I can find it.

@Aestrix yeah it was totally that first post you made. Yeah, sleep deprivation is a reasonable explanation. I feel that. The thing that bugged me was that I feel like if you had a helpful power role, you would have mentioned it so you could defend yourself. (You already have a reputation for being smart and Favored By The Gods, so roleclaiming would probably not make you more of a target than you already are).

I am interpretting that to mean that some people privately told alicorn "I want to be a vanilla townie" and other people privately told alicorn "I would like to be a power role" and maybe a couple even said "I want to be mafia".

That's no guarantee that Alicorn heeded anybody's requests, and I'm sure given the general politeness level around here that most people phrased their requests as "I would like to be Ehail but if somebody else is already Ehail that's okay but I just really want to be one of the shrens" instead of "Make me Ehail or I will ragequit".

So I think there is some chance that those of us who noticed that sentence asked for something specific. I think most people would want to try something new, so those of us who were scum last time are probably a little more likely to be town this time. But if only Aestrix and me noticed the thing then maybe we shouldn't try to guess who saw the thing and requested something and who just wrote "in please", and I don't profess to know what role Aestrix might have wanted.
