In the story, no, the character traits accrete around the plot role.

I was thinking that "metacausality" would be the reason for redmage!chelsea

Well, metacausality is just Glass' understanding of the will of the relevant authors. Alicorn might want to stick her with a different color than red if it happens at all.

What I mean is, Chelseas tend to acquire their powers in universes where you get powers-that-suit (e.g. Aurum, Gift) or in places where they can choose their own powers (e.g. some forthcoming 'verses). Neither condition holds in Goldmage's system. I might make a Chelsea a redmage if that made for a more interesting story, but none of the characters actually in the novel Goldmage are obeying template attractors because they aren't templates.

How do you explain Aegis?

My guess is: Aegis comes from a world in which you neither choose your power nor get powers-that-suit, so how come she has the standard Bell mental opacity?

My guess at the answer is that Bells have different power-related template attractors than Chelseas such that they will always get mental opacity if it's an option, whereas Chelseas will only get relationship-meddling if either they get a power-that-suits or they get to choose.

I said "tend"; not all Chelseas have the magic for this reason. And there's no rule that the Bell power attractor and the Chelsea power attractor have to behave the same way anyhow.

That was more or less it.

Mycroft Holmes is a possible candidate for templatehood?

And how much dors Sherlock takes from the RDJ movies?

The Sherlock template has its origins in the RDJ movies, in a sense, and draws some properties therefrom - the most obvious one that comes to mind is the "analytical violence" phenomenon.
