...yeah, uh, he would absolutely get a feeding tube if he was institutionalized and tried to starve to death. There's not even a question there.

Yeah, I thought as much. I'm not really sure how he'd react – he's still got a very basic personality at this stage, but most of it's gone, and he'd try hard to just get away and die but would probably eat food instead of having a feeding tube if he were given the option. I wasn't really imagining him being left alive by the Nine.

.
If Rescue is around it's not necessarily all that hard to get that to happen; she's liable to be getting a little closer to working with the heroes than she usually would in an attempt to get rid of the nine, which in this case translates to 'lead them to where he's being tortured, without letting them see her', anonymous tip or something. Nine clear out because heroes, she hangs around, he says something to the effect of 'I want to die', boom, he's got her attention 'cause she knows what happens to him if the authorities hear that.
Might not be the thread you want to write, which is fine, but it's doable. (Rescue's power is ridiculously enhanced hearing, btw.)

Hmm. I'm not sure he'd do anything unless he were forced into it, at least at that stage. It's a possibility.

I kinda wanted to write it being horribly dark and terrible (as opposed to whatever assisted suicide would be? Dark and sad?), because it sounds fun. In a weird way.

I was speaking with CuriousDiscoverer, and it turns out that if you forced him (with magic) to be conscious and responsive against his will while he's in this state, he'd want to go and slaughter the masses, worse than he would if he were a Buffyvamp, because he's been wronged by being prevented from being passive and dying. I'm not totally sure how that meshes with the "I want to die" thing. Pedro had an idea that the Slaughterhouse Nine see him after he's broken, turns out he actually did trigger but with a non-obvious power, or a power that wasn't immediately useful (allowing the Breakage), and then they try to recruit him because he's lovely and psychopathic.

It seems like this idea has potential. shudder

He wouldn't have to be talking to her when he said the thing; super hearing is handy that way. He could say it earlier in the sequence, too, so long as she was within range (like a mile) and paying some amount of attention and she has reason to believe it'd still apply afterward.

Hm. Maybe we should move this to Google Hangouts? I can be found at the obvious address (my username, at gmail).

Extensive spoiler tags are annoying.

They are! But considering they're about future plot ideas that I probably plan on doing and that, you know, sorta spoil the whole plot, I feel like they deserve spoiler tags.

I now have a setting! It's a joint effort by Moriwen and me, and it's named "Lapis".

Basically, it's got vampires.

Here's the google doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_tJ ... sp=sharing

Feel free to ask questions, comment on it, or whatever. If you notice that the vampires have a certain similarity to vampires from a certain TV show, yes, they do, but we tried to alter them quite a bit.

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention: we're planning a story in this world. (It was probably implied, but whatever.)

I have another setting! Thanks to CuriousDiscoverer for helping me to build the world, and for inputting a few ideas.

The spoiler-free (or at least less spoiler-ful) summary follows:
Proximal
It's called Proximal. The reasons are somewhat spoilery.

There are various different species of humanoid creature – Rhune(s), which have weird cat-eyes coming in amber, vibrant blue or purple, and have better hearing but worse eyesight and worse color-changing lumen than others; Luna (singular and plural), who have vibrant hair colors (e.g. purple or electric blue), are better at luming (lume-ing), and are typically bisexual and androgynous; Thamar(i), which are more physical, less skilled at lumen stuff, bulky, and have stripes on their arms and upper body.

They can make “lumen” (‘to lume’, ‘luming’, pronounced ‘loom’ and ‘looming’). It seems like magic, basically, and they can create glowing blobs of 'lumen' which is a mostly-intangible substance. They can color them and shape them and it's easier to do it near them and it gets easier to do with practice. It’s not considered magic by them, but rather a very explicable (if not necessarily explained) feature of sapient creatures. People’s abilities at luming vary, with species and between the individual.

With quite a bit of practice, you can do nice illusions and things, and they're typically a couple of degrees warmer than the surroundings. With more practice, you can control the temperature somewhat.

The society itself is nicer than average. Cities are taller, more compact, people are happier, buildings have a more common aesthetic, it's a nice (socialist-ish) government made of people who actually try to make stuff better, and (at least seemingly?) transparent. Has socialist healthcare, free education (up to and including university, if you meet certain requirements), and a social security net for those who would otherwise become homeless or something to try to get them back on their feet. Low crime rates, and people like them. They are a little bit over-steppy and maybe involve themselves in things that could otherwise be resolved without them, for reasons of efficiency and efficacy and setting precedent. They apparently sound scarily totalitarian, after I explained them on the IRC, though some of that was due to a joke.

However, they had a history of witch-hunts and persecution against people who were infected with a weird madness disease, so that's kinda sad, but oh well. It was fixed before the government properly came into power, and fortunately hasn’t happened since (because now people are more tolerant of things like that).
If you want spoilers, I guess you can ask, but so far I've only given them to Pedro (for feedback) and CuriousDiscoverer (for world-building), and I'm probably not going to release many spoilers publically until it appears in a thread.

Does it seem weirdly nice? Does it perhaps seem suspiciously nice? That might be intentional, or I might perhaps just want a boring, plot-free world. Maybe it's nice and somehow still has plot? Who knows.

(My main post has been updated with this, too.)
