Re: There should be a spoilery Effulgence thread
I forget the exact details, but I think it was some combination of trying to figure out if they were on that specific train and trying to figure out if they were traveling together.
Re: There should be a spoilery Effulgence thread
I assumed that it was just some minor bad luck as a result of using undeclawed hexes. They don’t do much destructive magic, but they do some.
Is there a causal reason that Stella’s truck broke but Golden’s didn’t?

I don't remember what incident you're referring to.
Re: There should be a spoilery Effulgence thread
Golden came to Forks and got a truck which worked until she turned. Stella went to Forks and got a truck which broke quickly and the mechanic never managed to fix it. The truck being broken caused Charlie to be on the scene when Stella was hit by the van; the truck staying broken meant that when she eventually needed he own vehicle she conjured Tegu.
Why did Stella’s truck break when neither Golden’s nor Gem’s did?

Also I'm pretty sure it was a different truck, in Golden's case at least.

Golden's truck belonged to Billy Black, who doesn't have alts. I think I actually had everybody else in station wagons.

The events in Spirit take place about four centuries after the end of Korra. If I read it correctly, though, Beila is the first Air Avatar since Aang. How long are you imagining the Spirituals live? I always assumed they were tougher than Earthlings in physical extremes (the evidence from the show doesn’t leave much room for alternate interpretations, starting from am iceberg being an effective form of cryopreservation and ending with people surviving being that close to lavabending), and it seems like they might have longer lifespans than us, but I didn’t think they were that much longer unless you are giving them more advanced medical technology than I thought.
I’m also wondering how far into Korra is considered canon for Effulgence. There are few direct contradictions with the show, but it requires a lot of creative interpretation to make it compatible with the end of Book 2 or anything later.
EDIT: Correct typo

I think it's at least fanon that Avatars live longer than other people in that universe, usually.
Re: There should be a spoilery Effulgence thread
I don’t know much about the fandom and I didn’t notice any hints to that effect in canon. Once you add Legend of Korra it gets particularly implausible; most of Aang’s friends outlived him. I could believe it in the general case, though, especially if it’s fanon anyway.
I’d expect a higher mortality rate due to violence, though. Avatar or not, they do tend to live violent lives.
