Actually, for the avatar thing, you can upload the image to an image hosting site and link it and you don't need to meet the 6 kb requirements, if that helps at all.

I dislike dog piles on people on the first day, but if I can see some compelling reasons I'm willing to join in. Whether it's smart tactically or not is debatable, I just think it's kind of mean to the killed person, because they barely got to play.

Oh noes! That guy is dead!
Also: Yay, mafia!
Here's hoping I will survive the first night (this time :D)

Sentimentality is kind of poor reason not to kill someone in mafia. I for one plan to win this :P
The fact the random number landed on a power role last time doesn't make such occurance any likelier this time.
(I have very little idea about power density in this game since I don't know Elcenia very well. I suspect it to be high but not insanely high.)

Also we wouldn't have killed BSS last time. She would have claimed and that would have been that.
It still would have been likely to result in ill fortune as the killers would have been pretty certain to target her immediately.

Sorry if I don't trust the randomness of that number Kappa.
It could serve as very weak evidence of your alligiance later however (if he dies and we find out his grouping)
Maybe that is why you suggested him?

On avoiding bandwagons: I had an idea about this while I was dead. Originally I was thinking crypts, but we can do without as well.
Don't do this yet. Wait for a day and get to know people for a bit. Then write a name on a piece of paper and tell people you have done so.
This should force everyone to think about a candidate without being influenced by herd mentality.
Later we will reveal who we wrote, possibly change our minds if someone actually has a good argument, and make our actual votes.

Thoughts?

I think if we do that we should also write why. Not just their name but also why we're voting for them. i've recently sort of rediscovered the word "because" and i've found that using it is really helpful for figuring out why i think things.

Also, on reflection, "Tulip got killed early last time" seems like an excellent reason not to vote for Tulip because it and whether or not people are swayed by it have nothing to do with this game.

...I'm afraid that may have made less sense outside my head than it did inside. Let me try again.

Okay, currently we are in a state of effectively zero information about who in this game might actually be a killer. Hence the random voting. Not only are we in a state of effectively zero information, but anything people say that resembles information is just as likely to be lies as truth, as far as I can tell. So I would be automatically suspicious of any proposed reason not to collectively murder a particular person that purported to be legitimately strategic. "Tulip got killed early last time" is not remotely strategic. But it is very convincing to my soft and cuddly heart. And since the reason I'm voting for Tulip is literally a random number generator, one random number is pretty much as good as another.

However, if I allow myself to be swayed by this sort of argument more than once, I open myself up to the kind of bullshit that went on last time with people changing their votes every time the latest target protested innocence. So I have now blown my "be convinced by soft cuddly game-external concerns" quota for this game.

I change my unverified random vote to pistachi0n (random.org gave me 13 this time), and precommit to keeping it there until someone comes up with a better first-day strategy than unverified random voting. In other words, I shall not be convinced by any argument that has anything to do with pistachi0n's supposed in-game characteristics in particular. Sole exception: if pistachi0n pulls an I Am Iron Man and is mod-verified to have town affiliation.

I accept verified random voting as such a better first-day strategy, but I don't know how to accomplish it and I would need to see someone put forward an implementation I understood before I'd switch.

*sees how many posts have happened while I was writing this* ...Holy shit you guys are talking up a storm.

I of course swear on my mother's grave that both this and the previous random number were actual legitimately generated random numbers, but you guys have no reason to believe me about that. If either of my random votes turns out to be a townie, I guess I will just have to live with your mild suspicion. Such is the price of being proactive.

We have 19, right? If two people die per day/night cycle, that ends with a vote among an odd number of people, so lynch or lose. But it's more likely to be three deaths/night for a while at least, and 16/13/10/7/4 is more likely to work out well than 17/14/11/8/5 would.

Why do you think there will be three deaths per night?

Kappa, as much as I don't like that you are voting to kill me, your reasoning is strategically sound. I did the same thing and I also set random.org to give me a number 1-19. I got 12. vote Paradox

There were three unconnected serial killers last game, but I think expecting that information to matter at all in how this game turns out to work is vastly underestimating the capricious and inventive nature of our gods.
