Also, more thoughts on fragment accumulation levels:
  • One or two uses per month: No fragment buildup
  • Early stages, more than two uses per week: Fragments accumulate.
    • Telepathic comms while transformed - can send to anyone, but only those with independent sending ability can reply
    • Host stops getting sick
    • Host can make unambitious alterations to petal-bodysuit (sleeves, leggings, skirt) and stem placement during transformation
  • Mid-stage: Accumulated fragments from at least 20-25 transformations total
    • Host can transform even without an external rose, which creates no flower heads
    • Host ages more slowly and cannot die of old age, nor get dementia etc.
    • Precise control over stem/petal configurations, at-will outfit alteration even while not actively transforming
  • Final stage: Accumulated fragments from at least 100-120 transformations total
    • Host can create new flower heads while transformed
    • Host can do some minor magic (e.g. telepathic comms) without transforming, and retains automatic healing and boosts while detransformed

Steel wants a blue/purple rose. And also a black/white one, but less.

Heh. Despite the general discomforts of rose-having?

Yes. An AU Steel from this world DEFINITELY wants All The Roses, those two top on the list. Mountain is already powerful enough that the tradeoff doesn't look as good, though.

How much do these hurt? Do fragments hurt or just the transformation and being transformed? I assume mundane anesthetic does not help?

Regardless, I would want at least some yellow/pink and probably blue/purple.

Do I read this right that at 20-25, you get the slow healing even if you don’t transform again?

Yes, after 20-25 transformations at fragment-accumulating frequencies, you will age slowly etc. even if you never transform again.

Merely containing fragments does not hurt. Transforming and flowerhead-growing hurts a lot; staying transformed hurts to a moderate degree. Mundane anaesthetic will help with anything except black/white pain.

I would estimate the following wishcoin conversions, flavoured appropriately (e.g. red/black is sharp, blue/purple is bruisey):

Red/black transformation: A handful of hexes (3-5)
Red/black transformed state: About a square per second

Blue/purple or purple/blue transformation: A handful of hexes (3-5)
Blue/purple or purple/blue transformed state: About a square per second

Orange/red transformation: Several hexes (4-6)
Orange/red transformed state: A square or two per second

White/blue transformation: A hex or so
White/blue transformed state: A few triangles per second

Pink/yellow or yellow/pink transformation: A handful of hexes (2-4)
Pink/yellow or yellow/pink transformed state: About a square per second

Black/white transformation: A star or so
Black/white transformed state: A pentagon or two per second

That's more than I was imagining. I was imagining mid pentagon to mid hex.

i'm not fully satisfied with my numbers and I might end up revising some of them down, but yeah, being a gruesome magical girl is an uncomfortable enterprise.

Just going to say... Awesome.

Would transformed girls look like plant-suited, Batman's Poison Ivy style? Or with low-fragmentation you can make it more frilly-dress style?

I'm already somehow perceiving Dark Magical Girls to be masochists. Or a hidden super-power for the good girls. Eeep.

That is less to sustain than I was imagining, even though it is more to transform. If magic were out, I imagine I would prefer just staying transformed to the pain of detransforming, even for sleep.
